Big news! Canada House is back at SXSW for two exciting days of programming, inspiration, networking, and awesome Canadian content, taking place March 11 to 20, 2022.
In addition to Telefilm Canada’s four panels (all happening March 15, so clear your agenda), we’ve got an exciting Mentorship Program on the docket. From facilitating international networking and business meetings to hosting events that showcase outstanding talents, minds, and innovators from Canada’s cultural industries, Canada House at SXSW is the place to engage with the pulse of all our creative industries!
With music, tech, and our audiovisual industries, this year’s Canada House at SXSW is a two-day affair: On March 14, Quebec Creative Wonderland organized by Investissement Quebec is in the house, and March 15 is all about Telefilm Canada’s panels. Oh, and did we mention there’s going to be free juice and smoothies, sponsored by Trendi?
Discover our panels:
- Inventive North: Arctic and Circumpolar Contemporary Art, Film and TV
Presented in partnership with Canada’s Indigenous Screen Office and moderated by its Co-Executive Director Kerry Swanson, this panel showcases the innovation and widespread collaboration that is powering a rising generation of artists in the north. An exciting momentum in Indigenous contemporary art, film and television production is occurring the far northern regions of Canada and beyond its colonial borders. The result is work that embodies a spirit of inventiveness and community, as well as deep reflections on our relationships to land and environment. - Being Seen: Directives for Creating Authentic and Inclusive Content
Presented in partnership with Canada’s Black Screen Office and moderated by Joan Jenkinson, Executive Director, Black Screen Office, this panel is based on groundbreaking research conducted in consultation with screen industry professionals and members of the viewing public who are Black, People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, Persons with Disabilities, children and their parents about how they feel about their on-screen representation, and what can be done to improve it. - The Blurring Boundaries of Arts and Tech
Moderated by Catherine Mathys, Director of Industry and Market Trends at the Canada Media Fund, this panel will explore the metaverse. The surge in the convergence of the physical and virtual world has added a new dimension to traditional artforms. From hybrid experiences to AR, VR, and XR, tech has allowed new methods of entertainment and elevated our consumption of art. Find out from industry experts and practitioners how they are evolving to cater to this new dimension. - Help Us Reduce Food Waste
Not only is Trendi providing the Canada House with free smoothies and juices, they’ll also be hosting a keynote on food waste! Join us as we explore the causes and systems in place that encourage the food waste problem, and learn about how we can change those fundamental systems to change how we think about distributing food.
