Canadian Content at SXSW 2022!

08 • 03

Canadian content, films, programming, panels, and much more will light up the 2022 SXSW Conference and Festival!

This huge international must for the film, music, and interactive industries takes place from March 11 to 20, 2022 (with the film fest component wrapping up March 19).

Highlights of our presence this year include the return of Canada House for two days of programming on March 14 and 15. We’ve got some can’t-miss projects in the fest’s official selection, from feature-length films making their world premiere, to XR experiences. Here’s a recap of some of the Canadian content at SXSW.

Features

  • Narrative Feature Competition – Nyla Innuksuk’s Slash/Back
Making its world premiere is this genre thriller set in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, where a group of teen girls fight an alien invasion! (P.S. Nyla Innuksuk is also participating in a Canada House panel.)
  • Narrative Spotlight – Renuka Jeyapalan’s Stay The Night
This romance, also having its world premiere, is about a deeper connection that happens after a Toronto introvert and an athlete attempt a one-night stand.
  • Documentary Spotlight – Reginald Harkema’s Kids In The Hall: Comedy Punks
From their TV series, feature film, and tours, to their new Prime Video project, this Canada-U.S. coproduced documentary about iconic Canadian comedy troupe Kids in the Hall is making its world premier.
  • Documentary Feature – Sara Dosa’s Fire of Love
A favourite at this year’s Berlinale, this Canada-U.S coproduction follows the lives of French scientists Katia and Maurice Krafft, who devoted their lives to the study of volcanoes.
  • Visions – Joële Walinga’s Self-Portrait
Also in world premiere is this documentary based on the beautifully-human side of collected footage from surveillance cameras across the planet.
  • Episodic Pilot Competition – Nicole Dorsey’s Something Undone
In its U.S. premiere, a woman comes across a troubling and mysterious sound while preparing her podcast from her deceased mother’s home, where she’s temporarily returned to organize the estate.
