As SXSW Online kicks off March 16 through 20, 2021, we’ve got updates on Canada’s virtual presence at the festival, with a spotlight on two Online Booths, loaded with programming you won’t want to miss!

imagineNATIVE Media + Arts Festival

First up, the biggest Indigenous film festival in the world will have an Online Booth at SXSW: imagineNATIVE Media + Arts Festival is gearing up for a rich virtual program that reflects its role as a connecting point for Indigenous creatives.

Presented with the support of Telefilm Canada, highlights will include talks with Indigenous multimedia artists and composers, cinematic case studies on Indigenous coproductions, uplifting stories about Arctic collaborations with Indigenous film professionals, and a lively discussion about culture, technology and creativity in the digital landscape.

Based in Toronto, imagineNATIVE’s next Media + Arts Festival is slated to take place from October 19 through 24, 2021!

Here’s all you need to know about its SXSW Online program:

PANELS:

  • Night Raiders Case Study – Join Danis Goulet, Chelsea Winstanley & more for a case study of the first Canada-New Zealand co-pro, the Indigenous sci-fi feature Night Raiders!
  • Collective Tuning: Verberations – Multimedia artists and composers Raven Chacon, Cheryl L’Hirondelle, and Laura Ortman in conversation with Jenny Western.
  • Digital Decolonized – A cross-sectoral discussion on the intersections of culture, technology, and creativity in the digital landscape, through an Indigenous lens.
  • Arctic Indigenous Co-productions – Indigenous film professionals from Arctic regions on the power of international collaborations to tell stunning original stories, uplift, and heal.
