Here\u2019s your recap of the festival\u2019s highlights, complete with video reports featuring the filmmakers themselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And the award goes to\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canadians are flying home with awards tucked in their suitcases this year, with two Crystal Bears awarded to our filmmakers in the festival\u2019s Generation Kplus section. Quebecers\u00a0 Genevi\u00e8ve Dulude-De Celles took home a <strong>Crystal Bear for Best Film<\/strong> for <strong><em><u><a href=\"https:\/\/stage.rdvcanada.ca\/en\/product\/colonies\/\">A colony<\/a> <\/u><\/em><\/strong><u><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stage.rdvcanada.ca\/en\/product\/colonies\/\">(<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/stage.rdvcanada.ca\/en\/product\/colonies\/\">Une colonie<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/stage.rdvcanada.ca\/en\/product\/colonies\/\">)<\/a><\/strong>,<\/u> while Sandrine Brodeur-Desrosiers also earned a <strong>Crystal Bear for Best Short Film<\/strong> for <strong><em><u><a href=\"https:\/\/stage.rdvcanada.ca\/en\/product\/just-you-and-me\/\">Just Me and You (Juste moi et toi)<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>. Also, the <strong>Audi Short Film Award<\/strong> went to B\u00e1rbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.berlinale.de\/en\/programm\/berlinale_programm\/datenblatt.html?film_id=201915469\">Rise<\/a>, a <\/em>Brazil-U.S.-Canada coproduction commissioned by Art Gallery of York University and in collaboration with RISE Edutainment.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, the Canadian supported production <em>Midnight Traveler<\/em> by Hassan Fazili was awarded a <strong>Special Mention<\/strong> from the Ecumenical Jury. The film was financed through the Hot Docs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotdocs.ca\/i\/crosscurrents-doc-fund\">CrossCurrents Doc Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Canadian talent in the spotlight in Berlin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Opening the 69th Berlin International Film Festival was <strong><em>The Kindness of Strangers<\/em><\/strong>, a Canadian coproduction with Denmark, Sweden, Germany, and France. Directed by Danish filmmaker Lone Scherfig, Canadian actor Jay Baruchel is among its stars.
