Canadian cultural programming will take centre stage in Germany all year long,\u00a0including the exciting selection\u00a0films at the Berlinale<\/b> (coming up from February 20 to March 1, 2020). Canada\u00a0has\u00a0been named\u00a0the Guest of Honour\u00a0for\u00a0the prestigious Frankfurt Book Fair\u00a0<\/b>(October 14 to 18), in an exciting collaboration\u00a0between the\u00a0Canada Council for the Arts,\u00a0Canada FBM2020\u00a0and Global\u00a0Affairs!\u00a0<\/p>

Opening the festival with a Berlinale Special Gala\u202fis this Oscar-nominated Canadian director\u2019s adaptation of Joanna Rakoff\u2019s 2014 memoir of the same name. The story also takes place in New York\u2019s 1990s literary scene. Starring Margaret\u00a0<\/span>Qualley<\/span>\u00a0and Sigourney Weaver, a young writer gets a job at the literary agency to famed real-life author J.D. Salinger.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ana\u00efs Barbeau\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Lavalette\u2019s<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Goddess<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0of the\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>Fireflies<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0 (<\/span><\/i><\/b>La d\u00e9esse des mouches \u00e0 feu)<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a>\u202f<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This next world premiere is also a book adaptation, this time of Genevi\u00e8ve Pettersen\u2019s 2014 novel. Screening in the fest\u2019s Generation 14plus section, this tale of a teenager whose parents are\u00a0<\/span>in the midst of<\/span>\u00a0divorcing is also set in the 1990s. As for its director, this is her third film selected for the Berlinale!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Matthew Rankin\u2019s <\/span><\/b>The Twentieth Century<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

After winning Best Canadian First Feature Film prize at TIFF, where it premiered and was selected for Canada\u2019s Top Ten, Rankin\u2019s debut feature won Vancouver Film Critics Circle awards and Best Film at the Los Cabos Film Festival, to name a few, and is making its European premiere at the Berlinale\u2019s Forum section.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Kazik\u202f<\/span><\/b>Radwanski\u2019s<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Anne at 13,000 f<\/span><\/i><\/b>t<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Also having its European premiere in the Forum section is this drama about a troubled young woman challenged by social interactions. At TIFF, it took home an Honourable Mention for the Platform Prize, was named to Canada\u2019s Top Ten, and snagged two Vancouver Film Critics Circle awards.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Anna\u202f<\/span><\/b>Falgu\u00e8res<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and John Shank\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Pompei<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>(Belgium-France-Canada<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>coproduction)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

After screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, this\u00a0<\/span>Eurimages<\/span>-funded project about two young brothers whose isolated world is shaken up with the arrival of a girl is making its international premiere in the Berlinale\u2019s Generation 14plus section.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
