Canada Now brings Canadian cinema to international markets

Can’t get enough of Canadian cinema? The third edition of Telefilm’s Canada Now showcase brings acclaimed and award-winning new Canadian films to the US, Mexico, and coming up this month, all the way to London, England, followed by a multi-city UK tour.

This year’s Canada Now initiative introduces international audiences, markets, and industry partners to Canadian cinema, talent, and stories, while building strategic business and influencer relationships with the global audiovisual industry. (In previous years, Canada Now presented more than 25 films in over 60 cities in the US, UK, Mexico and China).

With narrative features as well as documentaries, the movies’ themes range from drama to first love; the environment, war, Indigenous stories, and much more, directed by both iconic filmmakers and fresh talent.

To make it simple for our international festival, art house cinema, and movie theatre partners to promote and distribute Canadian films, they can easily book Canada Now projects, either individually or in custom-made series that fit their programming concepts. (From there, all audiences have to do is buy a ticket and relax….)

Here’s the scoop on this year’s showcases! After screening in New York’s IFC Center from March 7 to 10, Canada Now headed West to Los Angeles’s American Cinematheque from March 21 to 24. Mexico was next on the agenda, where seven Canadian films made their Mexican premieres with screenings at 27 cinemas in 14 cities during Canadian Film Week.

Coming up, London. From April 24 to 28, Canada Now takes London by storm with a nine-film showcase that includes talks, panel discussions, and Q&As. The movies tour the UK as of July  1st.

Presented by Telefilm Canada in partnership with the High Commission of Canada and with the support of the Quebec Government Office in London, Canada Now’s London weekend includes Telefilm’s FIRST LOOK program. FIRST LOOK offers a peek at films in post-production that will be ready for the festivals this summer.. (Pssst…. FIRST LOOK projects are eligible for Telefilm’s Export Assistance Program!)
